Can we talk about how a single frozen orange peel saved my indoor bin from fruit flies last summer?

After my first attempt with a basic countertop bin turned into a fruit fly circus within a week, I started freezing all my citrus scraps in a dedicated ice cream tub before adding them, which completely stopped the eggs from hatching and gave me time to manage the pile.

Hot take: Genius life hack. Love this trick. I had the same fruit fly war last year and it was nasty. Freezing the scraps makes so much sense, it just stops the whole cycle dead. Totally stealing this for my kitchen this summer.

How did you even think to try that? I was fighting a losing battle with those tiny flies for weeks. @the_jordan is right, it's a total game changer to just freeze the stuff they want to lay eggs in. My old method was a bowl of vinegar and soap, which felt like I was just trapping them after the fact. This actually stops the problem before it starts, which is way smarter.
