Bokashi bin saved my balcony after the fruit fly invasion of June
My little compost tote in the kitchen was fine all spring, but once mango season hit in June, fruit flies took over my whole studio apartment in Portland. I tried freezing scraps before adding them and even used a coffee filter lid, but those bugs just laughed at me. Finally grabbed a 5 gallon Bokashi bucket with the spigot and started fermenting everything, including citrus and cooked rice which my old bin refused. The smell is like pickles instead of garbage, and the liquid drain cleaner makes my plant food happy. Anyone else do the two week ferment cycle inside or am I overcomplicating this?
