Appreciation post: my freezer trick for fruit flies
I was getting fruit flies around my countertop bin last month, which was driving me nuts. I started putting all my fruit scraps, like melon rinds and apple cores, into a plastic container in the freezer instead of the bin. After a week, I thaw it and add it to my main compost bucket. It cut the flies down by about 90% because the cold stops them from hatching. Anyone else have a good trick for dealing with fruit flies in a small space?

Oh, that's a clever fix. It reminds me how so many small problems come down to interrupting a life cycle. I see it with mold in bathrooms too, where just wiping the shower wall down after use breaks the chain before it even starts. Your freezer trick is the same smart kind of prevention.

Remember my friend who left a loaf of bread in her pantry for weeks? She opened it and it was just a cloud of tiny moths. It was so gross! Now she puts all her flour and grains in the freezer first too.

Just be careful you don't forget and end up with a science experiment in your freezer.
