A simple lid check cut my compost smell in half

I thought leaving the lid loose was good for air. After closing it tight, the bad smells went down fast. What do you do to keep your compost from stinking?

Turn your pile for airflow instead.

I read adding more browns like leaves helps a lot.

Turning the pile is fine, but is it really that big of a deal? My compost just sits there and it breaks down eventually. People act like you need a perfect science project.
