Warning: don't binge the dub for a sub-only show, trust me on this

I caught up on a series I loved in Japanese, then tried the English dub to rewatch with my buddy last Tuesday. The localization changed a key character's catchphrase and it completely flipped the meaning of a plot twist. Anyone else find dubs that mess with canon details like that?

Wait, the dub straight up changed a catchphrase? That is wild. A catchphrase is like the whole point of a character, you can't just swap it out and act like nothing happened. And it flipped a plot twist too? That means dub watchers got a totally different story than us and they have no clue. I would be so mad if I found that out after getting a friend into the show. Which series was it, because now I need to know if one of the shows I watched dubbed pulled this on me.
