Unpopular opinion: I wrote off My Hero Academia for 3 years and now I'm 60 episodes deep, talk me down
Back in 2021 a buddy in Portland kept pushing me to watch it and I kept saying the same thing, it's just a bunch of kids yelling and punching the sky, nothing new. Then last month I was stuck home with a cold for 5 days and burned through the first 60 episodes in about a week. What got me was the Sports Festival arc, the way the show slows down and makes you feel every kid's reason for being there instead of just blowing stuff up. Now I'm torn, part of me feels like an idiot for writing it off based on the first 2 episodes and a few hot takes online, and the other part still thinks the fandom hypes it past what it really is. My old roommate swears the later arcs fall off a cliff after season 4, so I keep pausing before I get there. For people who stuck with it, does the payoff hold up or should I brace myself? And for the folks who bounced off it, what made you quit, was it the pacing, the yelling, or something else?
