Tried to rewatch Neon Genesis Evangelion but the DVD player ate disc 3
Pulled out my old box set last Tuesday and the player just shredded the third disc before I could even get to the angel fight I remembered. Anyone else have their old physical media give out on them mid rewatch?

My copy of The Sopranos season 4 got stuck in a similar way right when Christopher was in the intervention scene. Had to order a whole new set just to finish it.

Oh man, that's rough. Did you at least finish the intervention scene before it froze or were you stuck right in the middle of it? Because that scene is so emotional and intense, getting interrupted during it would have driven me crazy. I wonder if there's a specific defect in that batch of DVDs or if it's just bad luck with the manufacturing. I know some people swear by looking for older pressed discs instead of the newer burned ones because they seem to hold up better over time.

Four episodes into my Sopranos season 3 box set the disc froze right when Carmela was laying into Tony about the neighbor's pool. I just popped it out, wiped it with a microfiber cloth, and put it back in. Worked fine after that. People act like a scratched disc is the end of the world, but half the time it's just a dirty lens or a smudge. And that whole pressed vs. burned disc thing? I've got discs from 2002 that still play perfectly. It's usually the player, not the disc. Maybe try cleaning it before ordering a whole new set.
