Switched from fan subs to official releases after a translation disaster
Used to watch everything on fansub sites until I saw a translation of Evangelion that had a whole scene backwards. Now I just pay $8 a month for Crunchyroll and the quality is way more consistent. Anyone else notice how bad some fan translations can get?

Man that Evangelion thing is brutal, I remember watching a bootleg of End of Evangelion back in the day and the subs made no sense at all, just random words thrown together. It's wild how a single bad translation can totally ruin a show you were invested in. I had a similar moment with a Gundam fansub where a major character death was mistranslated as "he went to buy milk" and I was laughing during a super serious scene. Paying for official stuff feels like you're actually getting what the creator intended, not some rushed guesswork from a volunteer. You ever look back at old fansubs and wonder how we put up with that quality for so long?
