My buddy watched 3 episodes of Chainsaw Man with subs and said the reading made the fights hit harder
Honestly I have been a dub guy for like 8 years now and I never really thought about it much until last week. My buddy Marco came over to watch some shows and he insisted we put on Chainsaw Man with subtitles because he swears the voice work in Japanese carries more punch in the fight scenes. I rolled my eyes at first but we got through 3 episodes and I caught myself reading every line and watching the mouths move at the same time. The weird thing is he was right about the fast talking parts, you pay more attention when your eyes have to do work. We ended up arguing for like 40 minutes after about whether dubs lose jokes in translation and he pulled up a scene where the sub and dub said totally different things. Now I am sitting here wondering if I have been missing stuff this whole time in shows I already watched. Anyone else switch sides on subs vs dubs after one random night, or am I just easily swayed by a friend with strong opinions?
