I finally stopped skipping filler episodes after a panel at Anime Expo in LA

Some guy on a Bleach panel said the fillers give the manga time to breathe and actually build character depth, and it hit me that skipping them was making me miss the whole point of the adaptation. Has anyone else changed their mind on filler arcs after hearing a specific argument?

Oh man, that panelist totally nailed it! I had the exact same wake-up call with Naruto filler after someone pointed out how the random mission arcs actually made the ninja world feel bigger and more lived in. It really changed how I see the whole series now, right?

Is it just me or did that panelist actually make sense? I used to skip all the Bount arc in Bleach without a second thought. But after hearing someone say the filler gives the side characters actual screen time and breathing room, I went back and watched it. Still a slog in places, but I finally got why Ichigo's friends matter outside of just being rescue bait. The pacing felt less rushed too.
