Got blocked by an anime fan for saying which dub I prefer
I was in a Discord chat about Attack on Titan last week and mentioned I watch the English dub because I can multitask while folding laundry. Someone in the server went off on me about how dubs are 'disrespecting the original vision' and then the mod actually kicked me out. Is it that serious or did I just run into a really weird corner of the fandom?

You have to understand that for some fans, Japanese voice acting is an art form with specific emotional delivery and cultural nuances that get lost in translation. They see dubs as a shortcut that flattens that artistry into something generic. The multitasking while folding laundry comment probably came across as dismissive of the work the original voice actors put into their performances. It is still pretty extreme to kick someone over it, but fandom spaces can be very territorial about what they consider the "right" way to experience something.
