Dub vs Sub debate at my local con turned into a full argument last Saturday
I went to a small anime convention in Austin last weekend and a group started arguing about whether dubs or subs are better. One guy said dubs ruin the original voice acting and another guy said subs make it hard to focus on the animation. It got pretty heated and people were yelling over each other. Do you think one side is more valid or is it just a personal preference thing?

Has anyone actually considered how the quality of the translation matters way more than dub vs sub? I've seen some subs that completely miss the joke or change the meaning of a scene, and dubs that are just lazy with the voice acting. At the end of the day, a bad translation ruins the experience no matter which format you pick. Like the Steins;Gate dub is actually pretty solid because they kept the spirit of the lines, but some other shows just butcher the script. So maybe the real argument should be about which studio is doing the localization instead of just audio format.

My buddy once watched a sub so bad it turned a heartfelt confession into a grocery list.
