Dub haters need to actually watch a good dub before trashing them

I was at a small anime meetup last Friday and this guy goes off about how dubs ruin the 'soul' of any show. He said he hasn't watched a dub since 2010. I asked if he saw the Cowboy Bebop or Fullmetal Alchemist dubs and he just shrugged. How can you have a strong opinion on something you haven't touched in over a decade? Has anyone else had someone trash dubs without giving newer ones a real shot?

@willow_garcia makes a good point about the nostalgia trap. Is it really about the quality or just the comfort of what people grew up with? The Bebop dub literally had the director and cast working side by side to match the english script perfectly to the mouth flaps. If someone won't even admit that exists, what else are they refusing to see?

And honestly that attitude bleeds into SO many other things in life, not just anime. People will trash new music, new movies, even new restaurants without actually giving them a fair shake just because they decided something was "better back then." It's like everyone's stuck on this nostalgia treadmill and refuses to step off long enough to see that some of the newer dubs are actually REALLY well done.
