Debate: Was my friend right that subbed anime is always better than dubbed?
My buddy said I'd never get the full emotional impact of a show like Cowboy Bebop if I watched it dubbed, but I just finished it and actually preferred the English voice cast over the original Japanese despite his warning, so who's really right here?

Was your buddy also saying you wouldn't get the full emotional impact because he thinks the Japanese voice actors are inherently better, or because he just assumes dubs are always lower quality? Cowboy Bebop's English cast is pretty legendary, with Steve Blum as Spike being a standout. It always bothered me when people act like there's one objective right way to watch anime when so much comes down to personal taste and the specific cast involved.

Oh boy, here we go again with the anime purity police. Your buddy's probably the same guy who insists you have to read the manga before watching anything. Cowboy Bebop's dub is literally a masterclass, so his argument kinda falls flat when the English cast is just as iconic as the original.
