That week the Balloon Fiesta crowds made me want to sell my house and move to Santa Fe

Last October I tried to drive from my place near Nob Hill to work on Central for 5 days straight during Fiesta and it took me over an hour each way in gridlock. Everyone raves about the balloons but nobody warns you that the whole city grinds to a halt and I genuinely don't get why more people don't push back on how badly it messes up daily life.

One year I thought I'd be clever and bike there instead, wound up getting stuck behind a slow-moving RV towing a trailer with a giant balloon basket on it. My legs were not ready for that kind of commitment, let me tell you. At least in my car I can just sit there and question every life choice that led me to that moment.
