Roasted a green chile from my own plant and it exploded in the oven

Picked this beautiful big chile from my backyard in the South Valley last Saturday, scored it like normal, and stuck it in the broiler. About 4 minutes later I heard a pop and the whole thing burst open like a balloon, leaving a mess of seeds and skin all over the oven door. Has anyone else had a chile go nuclear on them like that or was mine just a weirdo?

Funny how the things we grow ourselves always seem to have a mind of their own. It's like there's always one rebel in every batch of anything homemade, whether it's chiles, bread, or even just a simple project. Guess that's just life's way of keeping us humble, right?
