Am I the only one who got ripped off by that broken fountain on Central?

I dropped $40 on that Rio Grande fountain repair fundraiser downtown last month. Watched the guy hook up a pump that lasted maybe 3 days before it started spitting muddy water everywhere. He told me "it'll flow for years" but I saw him packing up his van by the end of the week. Now the thing is just sitting there all sad and dry. Anyone else lose cash on that deal?

Used to roll my eyes at people complaining about those charity fountain things, but after watching that same pump fail on my block I get it now. Lesson learned the hard way.

Three out of five of the charity water dispensers on my delivery route have been sitting broken for months now. It's like city planners think installing something once is the same as actually maintaining it over time. Reminds me how we've got this whole pattern of building stuff for good PR and forgetting the follow-through.
