Used to run all my wires through the attic - now I go through the basement every time
Switched after a job in July 2022 in Charlotte. Attic was 140 degrees and I almost passed out. Basement runs take me 20 minutes longer but I don't feel like dying. Anyone else swap their main route based on weather?

The "you gotta plan for the heat before it hits you" part is exactly what I used to think too. I was one of those guys who'd just throw a fan up there and call it good, figured a little sweat was part of the job. But after one job in August where I had to crawl through a finished attic with no ventilation and the temp gauge hit 150, I called it quits on attic runs for good. You can prep all you want, but sometimes the heat just wins and your body sends you a clear signal. Now I don't care if the basement adds 30 minutes, I'll take the extra time over the risk any day.

140 degrees and almost passed out" yeah that'll make you rethink your whole setup real quick.

Respect that you had to rethink things but honestly I dont see it the same way. 140 degrees is hot no doubt, but some of these newer setups Ive seen guys running are pushing even hotter than that and they manage it just fine with the right fans and proper airflow. You gotta plan for the heat before it hits you, not after youre already cooking. A little prep work and some airflow direction changes can make a huge difference.
