Unpopular opinion: most of you are mounting keypads way too high and it drives me nuts
I keep walking into houses where the keypad is mounted at eye level, like 60 to 65 inches off the floor, and it makes zero sense. The standard is around 48 to 52 inches, roughly the same height as a light switch, because that is where your hand naturally falls when you walk in the door. Last month in a house over in Fremont I had to redo three keypads a guy installed at 62 inches, and the homeowner told me she had to stand on her toes to disarm before work. It matters because people disarm in a hurry, in the dark, with an arm full of groceries, and a high pad turns a two second job into a fumble. I have been doing this for 11 years and the only time I go higher is when there is a counter or a piece of furniture in the way. Where are you all setting yours, and has a builder ever argued with you about it?
