TIL that outdoor motion sensors pick up heat from passing cars way more than I thought
I was getting false alarms at a house on Maple Street every night around 11pm, thought it was raccoons. A guy from Honeywell showed me a chart where car headlights and engine heat can trigger certain PIR sensors from 50 feet away. Anybody else deal with this in neighborhoods near busy roads?

Wait, those things pick up car headlights too? I always figured it was just body heat from people, but that Honeywell chart explains why my sensor keeps going off when the neighbor pulls in at 2am.

Yeah that "engine heat from 50 feet" thing got me too. I had the same issue on Birch lane and what FINALLY worked was just angling the sensor DOWN a little more so it wasn't pointed at the street level as much. Took me like three tries but it cut the false alarms way down.
