PSA: That elderly woman in Cleveland taught me to hide a spare key better
I was installing a new keypad at a house near Lakewood last Tuesday, and the homeowner, a sweet 82-year-old named Mrs. Kowalski, told me she kept a spare key taped under her mailbox. I gently suggested a magnetic lockbox instead, but she insisted the mailbox trick had worked for 20 years. She was right, but it got me thinking - has anyone else run into clients with shockingly bad hiding spots that somehow never got exploited?

I get what you're saying @nancy351, but I don't totally agree. Some of those old tricks work just fine because nobody expects something so obvious to actually be the real spot. The world hasn't changed that much in the neighborhoods where people still leave their doors unlocked.

Noticed this a lot with older folks especially. They pick a spot that makes sense to them and stick with it forever, even if the whole neighborhood basically knows where it is. Sometimes it's like people just don't realize how much the world has changed since they first hid that key.
