Panel firmware upgrade bricked my entire system yesterday
I was doing a routine firmware update on a DSC 1832 panel yesterday afternoon and it completely locked up halfway through. Had to pull the battery and power cycle it three times before it would even boot back to the programming menu. What do you do when a firmware update goes south on a customer's system that's already alarmed and monitoring?

Oh man, that's a rough way to spend an afternoon. I've been there - once I bricked a panel so bad I had to explain to the customer that their alarm was basically a really expensive paperweight for a day. At least you got it back to the programming menu, that's better than I did on my first botched firmware job. Sounds like you had to pull the battery and power cycle it a few times too, did you end up having to reload the firmware from scratch or did it eventually sort itself out?

Pulling the battery and waiting five minutes did the trick for me.
