Old timer told me to stop using silicone on contacts, I argued for 6 months before eating crow

Milt from the supplier show in Nashville kept telling me silicone spray was ruining my door contacts. Said the film builds up and messes with the reed switch over time. I laughed it off, figured he was just pushing the dry lube he sold. Then I had three service calls in one week, all on jobs I did 8 to 10 months earlier, all with sticky contacts that tested fine until the door moved slow. Took the contacts apart, wiped them with alcohol, boom, problem gone. Last month I finally switched to a dry teflon lube on every hinge and contact. No callbacks since. Anyone else fight a habit that a supplier warned you about, only to find out they were right?
