Had to run wire through a finished wall in a house from the 1950s and tried a new trick with a fiberglass rod.

The plaster and lath was a real pain, but I taped a small magnet to the end of the rod and used a stud finder with a metal sensor on the other side. It worked way better than just fishing blind and saved me about an hour on the job. Has anyone else tried something like that in an old house?

Seems like a lot of setup just to avoid some fishing. Harper_owens is right it's smart, but idk if I'd go buy a magnet just for that.

Honestly my buddy did that same magnet trick last week and it saved his whole afternoon.

Remember when people used to tape a butter knife to a broom handle to reach stuff? My grandpa did that for years to grab screws that fell behind his workbench. What's the weirdest tool hack you've seen someone pull off?

Smart trick. It's always the simple hacks that save the most time on a job.
