Why does nobody warn you that a $70 borescope can be the best money you spend
I picked up a cheap USB borescope off Amazon about a year back, I think it was like $68 with the little light on the end. Used it on a prebuy for a Cherokee 140 last spring and found corrosion inside the wing spar that the owner swore was fine. That one call saved my customer from buying a plane that would have cost him thousands to fix, and he still sends me work because of it. Idk if it's just me but I feel like everyone talks about torque wrenches and timing lights and nobody ever mentions these things. The picture is grainy and the app is kind of junk but it gets into places your hand will never reach. What's the cheap tool you didn't expect much from that ended up earning its spot in your box?
A $70 camera finding spar corrosion is basically the plot of every "cheap tool saves the day" story, except yours actually happened instead of being made up for internet points. Meanwhile I've watched guys drop $400 on a fancy torque wrench they use twice a year. The grainy picture part made me laugh too, because it's always the worst camera and the sketchiest app that end up saving somebody's wallet. Mine was a $12 set of picks from Harbor Freight that I bought as a joke and now use on almost every job. Your mileage may vary on the cheap stuff, but sometimes the junk drawer wins.
