Took me 12 years to get torque wrenches right

I used to just feel the click and keep going a little, figured a few ft-lbs over was fine. Then I had a prop flange bolt shear on a 172 out in Bakersfield and the pilot caught it on preflight. Rechecked the manual and realized I'd been reading the range wrong for over a decade. Anyone else have a moment where the book finally made sense and you wanted to apologize to every plane you'd touched?
