The before and after on my torque wrench calibration was wild
Got my old Snap-On torque wrench back from calibration last week and the difference is crazy. Before it was reading 180 ft-lbs when I set it to 200 on a test rig. That means I've been under torquing main bearing bolts on 737 engines for probably 2 years since my last check. The calibration shop told me the internal spring had drifted almost 12 percent. Has anyone else had a big surprise when they finally got their tools checked?

Wait, hold on. You're really worried about 180 vs 200 on a test rig? That's like 10 percent off. I've seen brand new digital torque wrenches come from the factory reading 20 percent off on the low end. Plus, most of those main bearing torque specs have a pretty wide range anyway, like 190 to 210 ft-lbs is usually still within limits. Feels like you might be making this a bigger deal than it really is.
