Overheard a dev at a coffee shop say "AI agents are just fancy autocomplete" and it got me thinking for the last 3 days straight

I was grabbing a pour-over at this spot in Austin and this guy was explaining to his friend how LLMs dont actually think, they just predict the next word really well. At first I kinda rolled my eyes but then I started looking at my own workflow. I've been using copilot for coding and it does feel like magic sometimes but when I actually pay attention, its just filling in patterns. Not really solving problems. Does that change how you guys build with AI tools or am I overthinking this?

Treat it like a really fast junior dev who's great at boilerplate but needs hand holding on architecture. You gotta double check everything it suggests and provide clear context, treat it like a tool not a coworker.

Ain't that just a fancy way of saying it's a useful tool with limits?
