Just realized my smart home totally failed a basic test
My kitchen lights are on a motion sensor tied to an AI hub. Last night around 8 PM, I was standing perfectly still at the counter chopping veggies for a solid five minutes. The system decided no one was there and shut the lights off, leaving me in the dark. I had to wave my arms like a crazy person to get them back on. Has anyone else's 'smart' setup done something this dumb with simple tasks?

My motion sensor did that once and I had to rethink the whole setup.

Wait, it shut off while you were actively chopping? That's wild... mine only does that if I'm just sitting still watching TV. You'd think the motion of your arms cutting stuff would be enough to keep it happy.

Yeah, it's not really about motion, it's about heat. The sensor is looking for a big warm shape, like a person. When you're at a counter, your arms might be moving but your core heat is blocked by the cabinets. I had to angle mine down more to catch my upper body, not just my hands. That fixed it for me.
