I was stuck on a data cleaning job for three days until I tried a weird prompt trick.
I had a huge spreadsheet from a client in Chicago with thousands of messy, inconsistent addresses that my usual AI tools couldn't sort out. On a whim, I told the model to 'act like a very grumpy, detail-obsessed librarian' before giving the cleaning command, and it suddenly caught errors it had missed before. Has anyone else found that giving an AI a specific 'persona' makes it work better on tricky tasks?

Seriously? @miajenkins, maybe you just gave clearer orders.

Three days on one spreadsheet sounds like a special kind of hell. I'm curious if the persona itself matters, or if it's just about making the instructions way more detailed. Like, would a "paranoid fact-checker" work the same as your grumpy librarian, or is there something specific about that character that made it click?

So the secret to AI is just giving it a bad attitude? Should I try telling it to act like my old, annoyed boss next time?
