ChatGPT hallucinated a whole fake research paper in my face
I asked it to summarize a study I remembered from last year and it gave me a full citation with an author name that doesn't exist. Has anyone else had their AI just make up references like that and how do you catch it quick?

Last I checked, a free chatbot getting a citation wrong doesn't cost you anything, so not sure why you're sweating it. Just double check the author names yourself.

Are you honestly cool with a tool that lets you publish fake citations into the world, even if it's free? The real cost isn't money, it's your reputation when someone actually tries to track down that source and can't find it. If you're using it for anything serious, you're basically asking for an embarrassing conversation later.
